WEINGARD. Henry died 25 Mar 1923 in Chicago, Cook Co., IL, USA, and was buried 28 Mar 1923 in Canton, IL, USA.

NOTES for Henry:

BIOGRAPHICAL: Henry left his parents' home at Beard's Hollow near Richmondville, NY, when he was sixteen to teach school at Hyndsville. He married one of his pupils and with her "went West" to Peoria, IL. Later they moved to Canton, IL, where Henry and one James Marron started a carriage making and repair business. Shortly before his death he retired and moved to his son's Chicago home.

NOTE: (From Mark Aiken Heald) Henry Kilts almost surely was born in 1834, not 1844 as given on p. 79 of D.K. Martin's (Kilts) book...The handwritten entry, presumably by Henry himself, is unambiguous. The records agree that his marriage to Finette Coss (b. 1838) was in 1860, but it seems much more likely that he married at age 26, not 16; and that his wife was 4 years younger rather than 6 years older. (It's reasonable that he taught school for 10 years, rather than less than one, before marriage and going west to Peoria). This correction makes Henry the eldest of Conrad Jr.'s four sons. Indeed, the 1834 date is more consistent with the 1840 census data quoted by D. K. Martin (p. 79): the male under 5 would be Josiah, and the male 5-10 would be Henry. I'm pretty sure that Henry, and also his wife Finette, are buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Canton, IL.

He married Finette Norris COSS 22 Feb 1860 in Seward, Schoharie Co., NY, USA. She was born 3 Sep 1838 in Seward, Schoharie Co., NY, USA. She was the daughter of Peter COSS and Emily [------?------] . Finette died 6 Jul 1909 in Canton, IL, USA, and was buried 9 Jul 1909 in Canton, IL, USA.

OBITUARY: Name and date of newspaper account unknown:

MISS AVIS KILTS On January 12th, at 3:02 o'clock, 1933, at the Craig Colony, Sonyea, NY, at which institution for the past seven months she had been tenderly cared for, the spirit immortal of Miss Avis Kilts, daughter of Mrs. Melvina Kilts of Cobleskill, took its exit from her mortal body to the better land above.

Thirty-nine years ago she was born at the farm homestead at Little York, and, with her parents, and other members of the family, lived here until her parents bought a place on North Grand St., Cobleskill, a number of years ago where she remained until seven months ago, when because of her physical condition made it quite necessary to take her to said institution, a duty which produced sadness and loss to her mother's heart and members of the family. Having experienced poor health for a number of years. She recently developed an attack of influenza hastening her demise. (A long flowery account was included in the obituary and is omitted here. HWW)

Her funeral was held Sunday, Jan. 15th, at two p.m. at the Lappeus funeral parlors at Sharon Springs, who had it in charge. The Rev. Chas. D. Geiger, pastor of the family and of the Lutheran church, Cobleskill, officiated, speaking from the text: "The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord," assisted by the Rev. A. R. Empie. Burial in family plot at Slate Hill. She is survived by her mother already mentioned, one sister, Mrs. Duryea Stiles, a brother, Mr. Beardsley Kilts, a niece, Mrs. James Alverson, two nephews, Mr. Olin V. Kilts, and Mr. Myron K. Stiles, and several uncles, aunts and cousins. Her father Mr. Jacob Kilts and a next older brother, Orie, having preceded her to the better realm several years ago. May hope, faith and trust be strengthened and Divine comfort be given to the bereaved family and friends. -----(A.R. Empie)

AURIE KILTS

Aurie Kilts, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kilts of Little York, died at the Lipes Sanitarium on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. following an operation for appendicitis performed by Dr. M. D. Lipes, assisted by Drs. F. P. Beard and M. F. Shafer on Sunday, Jan. 25th. The young man was taken ill on Thursday. Appendicitis developed and on Sunday he was brought to the Sanitarium by Dr. F. P. Beard. An operation revealed a gangrenous condition which involved the appendix and a portion of the bowels. From the outset the case was a most serious one. The combined skill of physicians and nurses could not overcome the ravages of the disease and he passed away at the early age of 18 years. The sympathy of many hearts goes out to the stricken family, who mourn the loss of a dutiful son, and a brother who was always thoughtful and tender. He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Mrs. D. A. Stiles of Sharon and Avis at home and one brother, Beardsley Kilts of Little York. The funeral will be held at the church at Little York on Friday at 1 p.m., Rev. A. R. Empie officiating. Schoolmates will act as bearers. Interment in Slate Hill.

NOTES for Cynthia:

SOURCE: (Jessie A. Peek, 9/19/93): She (Cynthia) was the daughter of William and Julia Ann (Empie) Kilts, but the year of her birth is wrong. According to our records and also to the date on her tombstone, Cynthia Ann Kilts was born on 27 Feb 1857, presumably on a farm on US Route 20 in Carlisle, NY., because she was married at her home in Carlisle on 26 Jan 1881 to Charles Julius Warner. Charles was born 22 May 1857, we think in East Worcester, the son of Benjamin and Louise Baker Warner. He was a tinsmith by trade and after their marriage they lived in Lykers Corners, East Worcester, Ithaca and finally in Utica, NY, where they both died: Cynthia (d. 12 May 1935) Utica, NY Both are buried in the Charles (d. 23 Aug 1931) Utica, NY Forest Hill Cemetery. I have such warm and happy memories of this wonderful couple, Cynthia and Charles, -- the best grandparents any child could possibly have!

She married Charles Julius WARNER 26 Jan 1881 in Sharon, Schoharie Co., NY, USA. He was born 11 May 1857 in Sharon, Schoharie Co., NY, USA. He was the son of Benjamin WARNER and Louise BAKER. Charles died 23 Aug 1931 in Utica, Oneida Co., NY, USA, and was buried 26 Aug 1931 in NY, USA.
