The mission of our Outreach as our Lord says in Matthew 25- " Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. " The Outreach Committee shall be responsible for bringing to the parish of Grace Church the awareness of doing the Lord's work in this world, for generating and distributing any resources necessary to accomplish this task, and to work with the pastor and other boards and committees of Grace Church in theologically establishing goals and programs for response to the needs of others.
The Outreach Committee of Grace Church is very active. It consists of 5 members, appointed by the pastor. Outreach is supported by offerings and donations from members and friends of our church.
Since the committee was first started about six years ago by Pastor Dievendorf , over $8,500.00 has been given to individuals or families as "Gifts of Love" in their time of need. The gifts were decided by a vote of all committee members and only members of the committee knew the names of all recipients. Besides the "Gifts of Love", there has been over $6,000.00 in donations to organizations and charities.
Some of the projects we have undertaken are:
Picnic for the Vacation Bible School for the last 3 years.
Cooked and served a supper for our local Senior Citizens.
Purchased Christmas gifts for all residents of St. J. Nursing Home for the past 3 years.
Cooked and served an Awards Banquet for the local Cub Scouts.
St. J. Benefit Club
Mountain Valley Hospice
Community Thanksgiving Dinners
Lancaster Theological Semiary
Food certificates Amsterdam Church fire (restoration)
Hurricane Floyd victims
In 1998 we applied for and received a grant from UCCNY Women and their "Pennies for People" fund. This enabled us to provide many of our services.
