A Genealogy of the Lyker Family

This is the story of the descendants of Johann Henrick Leucher, Emigrant to America, who came from Northern Germany and first settled in New Jersey in 1733, before finally settling in what is today known as Lykers Corners, Town of Root, Mongtomery Co., NY USA.

This book is written in memory of the descendant, Henry Arba Lyker, 1916 - 1994, who was born, raised and worked the same farm as started by his ancestor Johann Henrich Leucher. Henry lived his life in the house that was built by his ancestor in 1781 and the building is still standing today. Henry's son, John Henry, is living in the house today and he is working this same farm as did his father, Henry Arba, and ancestor, Johann Henrich Leucher.

This book covers eleven (11) generationss of the Lyker family which number 1,504 Lykers, plus their spouses. The book contains about 265 pages of family data, plus reports and an index. There are personal notes on many entries, giving available data as birth, baptismal and marriage records, military history, personal anecdotes, obituaries, occupation, education and more.

This book has been researched and written by Herman W. Witthoft, Sr., with the assistance of his wife, Doris, his daughter, Melissa and his sisters, Florence L. Hulsizer and Martha A. Kopra.
