1179. David Vader (Johannes, Gerrit H, Helmers, Gerrit Simon, Simon Volkertse) was born in 1801 in Adolphustown, Lennox and Addington County, Ontario. He died on Jun 06 1879.
He was a blacksmith and was in the Sophiasburgh Militia on July 12, 1818. On Dec. 4, 1828, at theage of 27, he was in the second Frontenac Militia. David bought land, sixteen miles north west ofKingston on the southside of the Napanee River at a place now called Yarker, Ontario. He erected aSawmill and the place became to be known as Vader's Mills. Later, the name was changed to Yarker.He and his family were noted in the 1851 Census as being in Camden, Lennox and Addington County.In 1852 he bought the property on lot 44, Big Island from William, his brother. In late 1857, David waslisted as the occupant of lot 44 on the north side of Big Island on a list of potential Petit Jurors for thecoming year of 1858. He was also listed as a candidate for councillor and appeared on a listsubmitted by the Overseer of Roads. Later in the1850's the family left Ontario and went west to theUSA.From the "History of the County of Lennox and Addington - W S Herrington- 1913" Page 309Yarker is the railway and manufacturing centre of the Township. There was a time in its earlyhistory when as Vader's Mills, it- - - - --Page 310 The deed by which the "Simcoe tract" (lots 39 to 43 - 1stCon.) was transferred byHenry, a Simcoe heir, to Sidney Warner is dated July 1, 1840. Soon after a portion adjoining theriver on the south side was sold to David Vader, who built a saw mill.Mr Alpheus Van Luven, who still lives in Yarker (1913) is a nephew of David Vader. In 1852,David Vader sold a portion of land and waterpower he owned to the late Joseph Connoly, who built afoundry. Mr Vader sold the balance of his entire holdings to the late Samuel Scott.
David married (1) Margaret Samatha Unknown . Margaret was born before 1811. She died on Dec 18 1858 in Yarker, Ontario.
NOTE:- - Margaret Samantha's birth date is a little troubling. In the 1851 census, she is listed as 40years old. I suspect that she may have subtracted up to 10 years off her age, as many often did. If infact she was born in 1811 then her first child, John, would have been born when she was fourteenyears old, highly unlikely! - - - - - Elgin A Vader

1181. William Vader (Johannes, Gerrit H, Helmers, Gerrit Simon, Simon Volkertse) was born in 1803 in Fredericksburgh, Lennox and Addington County, Ontario.
He had an account at Munroe's General Store in Demorestville 1822 to 1829. On January 8th, 1829William was on the nominal roll of the Prince Edward County Militia. In 1852 William and his familysettled in Richmond Township, Lennox and Adddington County. (It was possible to travel up theSalmon River to their Richmond Township address as the Salmon River emptied into the Bay ofQuinte, across from their former residence on Big Island.) In 1853 he was listed as a farmer andlumber dealer at Roblin, Ontario, not far from their sawmill at Forest Mills. After a flood ruined theirdam and mill, they went to Faraday Township in Hastings County, southwest of Bancroft, Ontario in1882. Their son, Garrett Ingersol had gone to Faraday Township a year before the flood. He wasinvolved in the "Pot Ash" business. It is noted that William and Isabella deeded their property to theirson Garrett Ingersol on June 8, 1891. It was signed by them, Isabella with her signature and Williamwith an - X - his mark. Isabella's handwriting was somewhat shaky.From "History of the County of Lennox and Addington - W S Herrington- 1913" Page 207Roblin village lies 5 miles north of Selby and has some 200 population. There is a good waterprivilege here on the Salmon River with a saw mill and machine shops, also several stores, tavern, etc. Two miles lower down on the Salmon River, below this place lies Vader's Mills another goodprivilege with saw mill and machinery. Two miles lower down is McNeil's Mills (Forest Mills).
William married Isabella Black on Jan 15 1834 in The Presbyterian Church, Demorestville, Ontario. Isabella was born on Feb 18 1815.
William and Isabella were married in Knox Presbyterian Church in Demorestville, Ontario by RevJames Rogers. The witnesses were John Black and Jacob Howell. In the 1891 census, they wereboth alive and living in Faraday Township, Hastings County, Ontario.

Lennox and Addington County.In 'The History of the County of Lennox and Addington - W S Herrington- 1913', on page 316 we finda list of merchants, manufacturers and others who carried on a business in Yarker since 1850 - - - -Saw Mills: Paul Vader.They moved to Buffalo in Macon County MO in 1857. A foundation of a mill that he built is still tobe found in the Black Rock State Park.
