Thanks to Pamela Wozniak and David Collins for loaning this book for the purpose of using it on our website.

Mr. Schoolcraft wrote this book after 26 years experience as an Executive Agent for the U.S. government in its higher nothern latitudes among the Indians tribes in the west. He made a lifelong study of the Indians and was well educated. The front part of the book is in fragile condition and would be damaged by the handling needed to type the text.
